Appliqued Portrait Pillow

Maribel was a girl who attended my ladies embroidery class that I taught on weekends while I was in the Peace Corps. We were at an end of year party in the city, where I bought all my students ice cream.  They modeled their skirts and embroidered blouses.  Maribel grabbed my hat and I took her picture.

This was originally a wall quilt, but there were some elements out of proportion.  I re-aligned her eyes and narrowed her nose to make her face more uniform. By removing the remainder of the scene, the emphasis remains on her face.
